Who can join?
Everyone! Any adult (age 18+) is welcome to join us regardless of any previous music or singing experience – there are no auditions to join! If you’ve ever wanted to sing in a choir, now is the time! You won’t regret it (we have a LOT of fun!) Our singers come from all over the Foothills and Calgary region – Okotoks, High River, Diamond Valley, DeWinton, Strathmore and from all quadrants of Calgary! We have members of all ages (20s to 80s) and abilities. We pride ourselves on being a fully inclusive choir – everyone is welcome!
When and where are rehearsals?
Rehearsals take place on Wednesday evenings at Okotoks United Church (43 Riverside Drive). This is a fully accessible facility, with lots of parking. The first rehearsal for Spring 2026 will be Wednesday, January 14th!
There is, on average, one Saturday rehearsal per month, with participation based on which aspects of the season you choose – including additional songs and/or extra choreography. Season options, including extra rehearsal dates and times will be shared at the start of the season.
How do I get and learn the music?
Once you have registered and paid, the music will be made available to you digitally through our software platform (Choir Genius). Our preference is for members to use tablets or iPads for music scores, but hard copies will also be available.
You will also have access to music tracks, including part recordings to support your extended learning at home. Instructions on how to download the Choir Genius mobile app will be provided after you’ve registered. We make it easy to learn the music!
Do I have to practice at home between rehearsals?
Yes, please. We put on incredible shows after only a short season of rehearsals – you will increase your confidence with the music (and your enjoyment of the performance) by spending time singing on your own. We put all the tools in your hands to boost your learning at home – of course you will have your music and we also provide part recordings for each song, so it’s easy and rewarding to practice on your own!
We also offer weekly “sectional” rehearsals, hosted by our section leaders (soprano/alto/tenor/bass.) These informal gatherings are optional, held in a choir member’s home, and are so valuable and SO much fun. You’ll get to know your music better and you’ll get to know the folks in your section, which is just the best!
When is the performance?
Our Spring 2026 performances will be the Friday May 8 and/or Saturday May 9 (final details in the works!)

Absolutely! Coming together to sing is not only fun, but also incredibly rewarding. Great for your soul – your brain – your health and your mood!
Our choir is made up of wonderful people – lifelong friendships are made each and every season. That’s why our tag line for the Big Rock Singers is “Where you will find more than your voice!”
How much does it cost to join?
We know that the benefits derived from music, singing and being part of a choir family are all so important – we’ve seen that very clearly over our 36 year history. Therefore, we have kept it affordable to join the Big Rock Singers!
The membership fee for the Spring 2026 season is $375.00 (which includes a $25 society membership fee for the season.)
Singer fees help cover the operational costs of the choir – music, track recordings, part recordings, rehearsal venue rental, performance venue rental and our Artistic Team.
Payment options include Credit Card and e-transfer, with details provided through our registration system.
Is there financial assistance?
The Big Rock Singers is a community choir open to all adults who love to sing! To reduce barriers to joining our choir there are a number of fee payment options available. All such requests are confidential. Please email treasurer@bigrocksingers.com for more information.
What is the refund and withdrawl policy?
The BRS Society Membership fee ($25 per season) is non-refundable.
The season singing fee is eligible for refund should you withdraw before January 31st with notice to treasurer@bigrocksingers.com.
What else do I need to know?
One of the things we love hearing most is when new singers – of all ages – say that they never thought they could do it – they never thought they could be part of a production like ours. We promise that everyone will be successful and feel like a star on show day!
