Registration Form, Spring Season
Registration is now OPEN for “Music of the Night” – our Spring ’25 season!
We are now accepting registrations for NEW and returning singers for the Spring, 2025 season.
Rehearsals start in January for our 35th Anniversary Gala Music of the Night show.
We are a “non- auditioned” community choir, which means no previous music or singing experience is required. We’re made up of people who want to sing and perform – while meeting new friends along the way. (It might interest you to know that most of our choir members don’t read music, and had never sung in a choir before joining the Big Rock Singers!) We’ll teach you everything you need to know!
Our Spring performance is done in “show choir” style – we add a bit of group choreography and basic costumes to make our show into much more than your ordinary choir concert. It’s amazing and SO much fun! We will help you learn it all step-by-step, and there will be lots of help along the way! All of our singers confirm that they never thought they’d be able to be such polished performers come show day! Everyone is successful – the best feeling as an adult!
For our Spring season, singers can choose the level of participation that works best for them. The “Concert Choir” sings fewer songs, but concert choir singers still enjoy all the fun of the thrilling final performance. For those singers who are happiest when they are on stage and more is better, we have additional opportunities to sing and dance in the “Show Choir” and “Ensemble” numbers.
The full choir (comprised of the “concert choir” and “show choir”) rehearses once a week on Wednesday evenings (6:30-8:30pm) at Okotoks United Church (43 Riverside Drive.) Those who want to sing the additional “show choir” numbers, and the “ensemble” songs in our show extend their time at rehearsal (8:30-9:30pm.)
Workshop rehearsals take place on a few Saturdays during the season – we work on learning the music and movement, as applicable. The number of times you will attend a Saturday rehearsal depends on your chosen participation level (see above.) Dates and times will be provided at the first rehearsal.
Choir members also have the option to attend a weekly sectional rehearsal, to work on their specific part (soprano, alto, tenor, bass.) These small group rehearsals are hosted by our amazing section-leaders, and are a great way to get to know your fellow singers a bit better and have a whole lotta fun!
We are a volunteer organization – and we are proud to tell our audiences that everything they see on Show Day is a result of the volunteer efforts of choir members, and our community partners and supporters. Many hands make light work and when everyone helps to bring a show together, we create magic on – and off – stage.
Like every arts organization, we rely on fundraising “keep the lights on” and to keep our registration costs affordable. We have different fundraising projects during the choir year – Bake sales, Purdys chocolate sales and hosting a Trivia Night are some examples. Our Board of Directors will provide details on the planned fundraisers within the first few weeks of the season, so you know exactly what to expect and that we make it easy to fulfill your role in the fundraising projects for the season.
We’re excited to meet and sing with you – welcome to our choir family!

Frequently Asked Questions
If you have any other questions not answered here, please don’t hesitate to Contact Us.
Everyone! Any adult (age 18+) is welcome to join us regardless of any previous music or singing experience – there are no auditions to join! If you’ve ever wanted to sing in a choir, now is the time! You won’t regret it (we have a LOT of fun!) Our singers come from all over the Foothills and Calgary region – Okotoks, High River, Diamond Valley, DeWinton, Strathmore and from all quadrants of Calgary! We have members of all ages (20s to 80s) and abilities. We pride ourselves on being a fully inclusive choir – everyone is welcome!
Rehearsals take place on Wednesday evenings at Okotoks United Church (43 Riverside Drive) starting at 6:30pm. This is a fully accessible facility, with lots of parking. The first rehearsal is on Wednesday January 15, 2025. There will be a few additional Saturday rehearsals during the season, depending on which songs you choose to participate in, and whether you wish to participate in any choreography – dates and times of these will be shared at the first rehearsal.
Once you have registered and paid, most of the music will be made available for you to print at home (these are the songs which have been purchased in “e-print format.”) Any additional (hard copy) songs will be handed out at the first rehearsal.
We will also provide you with online access to a recording of each song so you can hear what it sounds like, as well as specific part recordings to help you learn your part (aka the notes to sing.) We make it easy to learn the music!
Yes, please. We put on incredible shows after only a short season of rehearsals – you will increase your confidence with the music (and your enjoyment of the performance) by spending time singing on your own. We put all the tools in your hands to boost your learning at home – of course you will have your music and we also provide part recordings for each song, so it’s easy and rewarding to practice on your own!
We also offer weekly “sectional” rehearsals, hosted by our section leaders (soprano/alto/tenor/bass.) These informal gatherings are optional, often held in a choir member’s home, and are so valuable and SO much fun. You’ll get to know your music better and you’ll get to know the folks in your section, which is just the best!
Our Gala 35th Anniversary shows will take place at the Viking Rentals Centre (formerly Foothills Centennial Centre) In Okotoks. There will be two evening performances – Friday May 09 and Saturday May 10, 2025.
Absolutely! Coming together to sing is not only fun, but also incredibly rewarding. Great for your soul – your brain – your health and your mood!
Our choir is made up of wonderful people – lifelong friendships are made each and every season. That’s why our tag line for the Big Rock Singers is “Where you will find more than your voice!”
We know that the benefits derived from music, singing and being part of a choir family are all so important – we’ve seen that very clearly over our 35 year history. Therefore, we have kept it affordable to join the Big Rock Singers!
The membership fee for the Spring 2025 35th Anniversary season is $375.00 (which includes your society membership fee for the season.)
Singer fees help cover the operational costs of the choir – music, track recordings, part recordings, rehearsal venue rental, performance venue rental and our Artistic Team.
Payment can be made through PayPal using the link below, while registration is open. Even if you don’t have a PayPal account you can still use a credit card on their site. There is also an option to e-transfer your membership fee to treasurer@bigrocksingers.com
The Big Rock Singers is a community choir open to all adults who love to sing! To reduce barriers to joining our choir there are a number of fee payment options available. All such requests are confidential. Please email info@bigrocksingers.com for more information.
We have a strict policy on refunds as we purchase music, make plans and manage our financial commitments based on registered members. The $25.00 Society membership fee is non-refundable. After the second rehearsal, there is no refund of the registration fee if you withdraw.
One of the things we love hearing most is when new singers – of all ages – say that they never thought they could do it – they never thought they could be part of a production like ours. We promise that everyone will be successful and feel like a star on show day!
Trust us – we have taken countless folks who have never sung in a choir, or never sung for an audience, and guided them through the process, step-by-step. You’ll have the best fun – guaranteed!
