Registration is now OPEN for “Music of the Night” – our Spring ’25 season!
We are now accepting registrations for NEW and returning singers for the Spring, 2025 season.
Rehearsals start in January for our 35th Anniversary Gala Music of the Night show.
We are a “non- auditioned” community choir, which means no previous music or singing experience is required. We’re made up of people who want to sing and perform – while meeting new friends along the way. (It might interest you to know that most of our choir members don’t read music, and had never sung in a choir before joining the Big Rock Singers!) We’ll teach you everything you need to know!
Our Spring performance is done in “show choir” style – we add a bit of group choreography and basic costumes to make our show into much more than your ordinary choir concert. It’s amazing and SO much fun! We will help you learn it all step-by-step, and there will be lots of help along the way! All of our singers confirm that they never thought they’d be able to be such polished performers come show day! Everyone is successful – the best feeling as an adult!
For our Spring season, singers can choose the level of participation that works best for them. The “Concert Choir” sings fewer songs, but concert choir singers still enjoy all the fun of the thrilling final performance. For those singers who are happiest when they are on stage and more is better, we have additional opportunities to sing and dance in the “Show Choir” and “Ensemble” numbers.
The full choir (comprised of the “concert choir” and “show choir”) rehearses once a week on Wednesday evenings (6:30-8:30pm) at Okotoks United Church (43 Riverside Drive.) Those who want to sing the additional “show choir” numbers, and the “ensemble” songs in our show extend their time at rehearsal (8:30-9:30pm.)
Workshop rehearsals take place on a few Saturdays during the season – we work on learning the music and movement, as applicable. The number of times you will attend a Saturday rehearsal depends on your chosen participation level (see above.) Dates and times will be provided at the first rehearsal.
Choir members also have the option to attend a weekly sectional rehearsal, to work on their specific part (soprano, alto, tenor, bass.) These small group rehearsals are hosted by our amazing section-leaders, and are a great way to get to know your fellow singers a bit better and have a whole lotta fun!
We are a volunteer organization – and we are proud to tell our audiences that everything they see on Show Day is a result of the volunteer efforts of choir members, and our community partners and supporters. Many hands make light work and when everyone helps to bring a show together, we create magic on – and off – stage.
Like every arts organization, we rely on fundraising “keep the lights on” and to keep our registration costs affordable. We have different fundraising projects during the choir year – Bake sales, Purdys chocolate sales and hosting a Trivia Night are some examples. Our Board of Directors will provide details on the planned fundraisers within the first few weeks of the season, so you know exactly what to expect and that we make it easy to fulfill your role in the fundraising projects for the season.
We’re excited to meet and sing with you – welcome to our choir family!
